Isaiah 54 Project

A friend suggested this name for my blog. After I read Isaiah 54 I realized that I really don’t understand all that chapter has to offer. There is a lot of good word in those verses.

However, I read Chapter 53. Chapter 53 prophesies the coming of the Messiah, Jesus Christ.

I realized that 53 had to come before 54. Not talking about numerical order. Chapter 54 tells us about the benefits of being God’s child. We can’t be reconciled to God as HIS child without Jesus. (Hence chapter 53)

Jesus, had to come first. Then and only then can we know the benefits of God and partake of all He has to offer.

http://www.christnotes.org/commentary.php?com=wes&b=23&c=54 Wesley’s Explanatory notes on Isaiah 54 further explain the meaning and the benefits decribed.

Isaiah 54 is a promise of reconciliation and redemption.

V4 Fear not; for thou shalt not be ashamed: neither be thou confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy widowhood any more.

Our Creator promises His grace to us. His promises to comfort and rebuild the desolate places of our heart are true and real.

V11 O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest, and not comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colours, and lay thy foundations with sapphires.

V12 And I will make thy windows of agates, and thy gates of carbuncles, and all thy borders of pleasant stones.

V16 Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy.

He is the Creator of all and reigns above all. Nothing can compare to His authority or power. Nothing of the enemy can prosper where He walks. Where the Lord is revered the enemy has no power. The enemy cowers.

V16 Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy.

V17 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn.

“Heritage” means “The status acquired by a person through birth; a birthright” according to http://www.thefreedictionary.com/heritage.

This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.

Isaiah 54 is your birthright. Because we are heirs and joint heirs with Jesus Christ when we believe. Romans 8:17. Thanks to this heritage that God describes just for you will make you free and free indeed.

V14  In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee.

V15 Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake.

That is what I long for. For all of those called by the name of Christ know true freedom in Him. That all oppression, fear, depression, sickness, rejection, bitterness, anger just for example have no control or impact on His people.

That instead the fruits of the Spirit abound in our hearts.

  1. You are on your way Donna… 🙂 I believe that the Lord will begin to reveal his heart for the people and make you the ‘pen of a ready writer,’ to transcribe his word upon their heart, setting the captive free. God bless you as a new chapter begins to unfold in your life…

Isaiah 54 is the Lord’s answer to a covenant people who departed from the Way and in their deep despair and barreness, He calls them back to himself as if a wife, deserted and distressed in spirit. Not only does he proclaim his love for them, but he breaks off the barreness (bereaved, dry, solitary place) and removes their reproach (shame, dishonor, disgrace) off of them and reestablishes His covenant (promise of the inheritence) to bring honor in the midst of disgrace. He declares himself as ‘I AM,’ which in the Hebrew text means (with great intent and purpose). He becomes an enemy to their enemies and an adversary to their adversaries and no one can take them away from Him. He restores them back as the heritage of the Lord and peace, righteousness and security triumphs over opposition.

    Let the pilgrimage begin…

  2. Excellent post. I especially like your last paragraph. Yes, that ” all of those called by the name of Christ [would] know true freedom in Him. That all oppression, fear, depression, sickness, rejection, bitterness, anger just for example [would] have no control or impact on His people.

That instead the fruits of the Spirit abound in our hearts”!
    God bless you,
    Tricia
